North Carolina State Requirement Details for Real Estate Continuing Education

The CE Shop is an approved Sponsor in North Carolina Approval Number: 1421

Every one (1) year, 8 clock hours of Real Estate Continuing Education is required.

  • Brokers renew their licenses every June 30
  •  Four (4) of the hours of the CE credit hours must be obtained by completing the Real Estate Update course prescribed by the Commission. Per NC REC rules, distance education providers are not allowed to offer this course online. Therefore,The CE Shop does not offer this course at this time. The remaining 4 hours are in electives, please see catalog above for those elective hour selections.
  • The North Carolina Real Estate Commission requires that all students spend a minimum amount of seat time engaged in the course content. Our online course delivery system manages this requirement for our students.
  • Per NC REC rules, all courses must be completed no later than 30 days after time of enrollment or by June 10th of each year, whichever comes first. No courses may be ordered or completed thru June 11-30 each year. If you fail to complete a course according to these requirements you will need to purchase new courses and start over with any incomplete ones.
  • Per NC REC rules, licensees may not complete more than 8 hours of CE in any given day.
  • A person who is issued a broker license (either by examination, reciprocity or reinstatement) does NOT have to take continuing education courses during the license period in which the license is issued. However, they must satisfy the CE requirement prior to the second renewal of the license.
  • Beginning July 1, 2006, all brokers-in-charge must complete a four classroom hour Broker-in-Charge Annual Review Course each full license period after being designated a broker-in-charge. Currently, The CE Shop does not offer this course.
  • The fee you pay for each course includes all fees.
  • It is required that you provide your correct license number and name as on your pocket card as a condition of receiving credit for the course.
  • If you are licensed as a "Provisional" Broker please refer to the NC REC website for additional information/details as The CE Shop, Inc. currently does not offer the 90 hours of Post-Licensing courses required for this license type.

Immediately upon real estate course completion, The CE Shop will provide students with an electronic copy of the course Certificate of Completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five (5) years, should you need additional copies at a later time. Please refer to your renewal application to determine if you need to submit your Certificate(s) of Completion with your renewal.

Real estate course completions are reported to the NC REC every business day in the early afternoon.  It may take 2-4 business days from the time we report your hours before the Commission updates your license and/or updates their website with the hours.

Please enter your individual license number correctly and fully when prompted in the registration process to ensure the reporting of your hours takes place and your certificate of completion reflects the correct license number.
